Stopping Is Not the Place to Guess
Brake Service at Tizzano Automotive
Brakes rarely fail without warning. They squeal, they pulse through the pedal, the pedal starts sitting lower than it used to, or the car pulls to one side as you slow down. Each of those points somewhere different, which is why a brake job here starts with measuring what is actually left and working out why the symptom is there. Fitting pads to a car with a seized caliper only means you will be back.
Services Include:- Brake inspection with pad thickness and rotor measurement
- Brake pad and rotor replacement
- Caliper, slide pin and hardware service
- Brake hose, hard line and fluid service
Nick spent twelve years as a dealership technician before opening the shop, and brakes are among the jobs he sees most. You get the measurements, what they mean and what your options are before a single part is ordered.
Call to ScheduleWhat We Inspect and Replace
A brake system is more than pads and rotors, and the worn part is not always the part making the noise. On an inspection we go through the whole corner, because a sticking slide pin or a swollen hose will chew through a new set of pads just as quickly as it finished the last one.
On a Brake Inspection We Check:- Pads, rotors and the anti-rattle hardware that locates them
- Calipers, pistons and slide pins, checked for free movement
- Flexible hoses and hard lines, checked for swelling, corrosion and leaks
- Brake fluid condition, the parking brake, and ABS wheel speed sensors
Two questions come up on nearly every brake job. Rotors are usually replaced rather than machined these days, because modern rotors leave the factory thin and often have too little material left to cut safely. And brakes are done in axle pairs, both fronts or both rears together, so the car stops evenly. If the measurements say only one axle needs attention, that is what we will tell you.
What Your Brakes Are Telling You
- 01
A squeal that comes and goes
Most pads carry a wear indicator, a small metal tab designed to touch the rotor and squeal once the friction material gets low. It is a warning rather than a failure, and it is the cheapest point at which to act.
- 02
A grind you can feel
Grinding usually means the friction material is gone and metal is running on metal. That damages the rotor and sometimes the caliper, so a job that would have been pads becomes pads, rotors and more.
- 03
Pulsing through the pedal
A pedal that pushes back rhythmically as you slow down normally points to thickness variation in the rotor rather than anything wrong with the pads themselves.
- 04
A pedal that sits low or feels soft
A spongy or slowly sinking pedal points at the hydraulic side: air in the lines, a failing master cylinder, a swollen flexible hose or a fluid leak. This is the one worth looking at promptly.
- 05
Pulling to one side under braking
If the car steers itself when you brake, one side is doing more work than the other. A sticking caliper or a restricted hose is the usual reason, and it wears that side out faster too.
- 06
A brake or ABS warning light
A brake light can simply mean low fluid or an engaged parking brake. An ABS light means the system logged a fault and switched itself off, so it needs to be read and tested rather than reset and ignored.
How a Brake Job Goes Here
Four steps, in the same order every time, so you know what you are paying for before the work starts.
- 01
Measure, Not Eyeball
The wheels come off and the pads get measured rather than glanced at through the spokes. Rotor thickness is measured too, because that is what decides whether they can stay.
- 02
Find the Cause
The noise, the pulse or the pull gets traced back to the component causing it. That is what stops the same complaint returning a few months later with new parts on the car.
- 03
Numbers and Options First
You hear what the measurements are, what is genuinely worn, what can wait and what cannot, and what each option costs. Then you decide, before anything is ordered.
- 04
Install and Road Test
Hardware is cleaned and lubricated, fasteners are torqued to spec, and the car is driven and re-checked before you get the keys back.
Brake Repair Questions
There is no single number, because pads are consumed by heat and use rather than by time. A car that mostly sits on the highway can go two or three times as far as one doing short trips in traffic. Instead of guessing from mileage, have them measured at a rotation or an oil change and you will get a real answer.
Not always, but often. Rotors have a minimum safe thickness stamped into them, and once they are near it there is nothing left to machine off. We measure first and tell you which case your vehicle is in rather than assuming either way.
A light squeal on a fresh set is common while the pads bed in and often clears within the first few hundred miles. A squeal that sticks around usually points at hardware that was not cleaned and lubricated during the install, or at a pad compound that is simply noisier by design.
A straightforward pad and rotor job on one axle is a short visit. If the inspection turns up a seized caliper or a leaking line it takes longer, and you will hear that when we call with the findings rather than afterwards.
Both, depending on the vehicle and on what you want. There is a real difference between a budget pad and a quality one in noise, brake dust and how long it lasts. We lay out the options and let you pick rather than deciding quietly on your behalf.
Yes. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and corrodes components from the inside out. We test its condition during an inspection rather than recommending a flush off a calendar.
Often Looked At Alongside Brakes
Auto Diagnostics
An ABS or traction light needs the fault read and tested, not cleared. That is diagnostic work rather than a brake job.
Auto DiagnosticsSuspension & Steering
A shudder under braking is not always the brakes. Worn ball joints and bushings produce a similar feel through the wheel.
Suspension & SteeringTire Services
The wheels are already off during a brake job, which makes it the natural moment to check tread depth and wear pattern.
