Four Contact Patches, Each the Size of a Hand
Tire Service at Tizzano Automotive
Everything the car does, it does through four patches of rubber roughly the size of your hand. Braking, steering and traction all pass through them, which makes tires the single component where condition matters most and gets checked least.
Services Include:- Tire sales and installation, for every season and budget
- Mounting and road-force balancing
- Tire rotations
- Flat repairs and tire pressure checks
Tires are not where an independent shop makes its money, and we will not pretend otherwise. What they are is the point where a lot of other problems first become visible, because the way a tire wears is a written record of what the suspension underneath it has been doing.
Call to ScheduleReading the Wear Before You Buy
Before a new set goes on, it is worth understanding why the old set finished the way it did. Tires wear evenly when everything underneath them is doing its job. When they do not, the pattern points somewhere specific, and fitting new rubber without addressing it simply resets the clock on the same problem.
What the Wear Pattern Tells Us:- Worn on both shoulders, center intact: chronically underinflated
- Worn down the center: run overinflated for a long time
- Worn on one edge only: an alignment angle is out
- Cupped or scalloped in patches: worn dampers or suspension components
Alignments are not performed here. We do not have the equipment for it and we would rather say so than take the work and guess. What we will do is tell you plainly when the wear says you need one, and arrange it for you, so a new set is not quietly ruined by something that was visible on the old one.
When Tires Need Attention
- 01
Tread at or near the wear bars
Every tire has raised bars set into the grooves. When the tread wears flush with them, the tire is finished as a wet-weather tire regardless of how much rubber appears to be left.
- 02
A shake that appears at one speed
A vibration that arrives around a particular speed and smooths out above and below it is the classic signature of a balance problem rather than anything mechanical.
- 03
Uneven wear across a tire
One shoulder gone while the rest looks healthy means the tire is not meeting the road squarely. That is an alignment or a suspension issue, and the tire is just the part reporting it.
- 04
A tire that keeps going down
A slow leak is usually a nail you have not found, a corroded wheel rim sealing badly, or a failing valve stem. All three are repairable, and all three are worth finding rather than topping up every fortnight.
- 05
Cracking in the sidewall
Rubber ages whether the car is driven or not. Fine cracks around the sidewall mean the compound is hardening, and a tire can be unfit through age while still carrying most of its tread.
- 06
A bulge anywhere on the sidewall
This one is not a wait-and-see. A bulge means the internal structure has been damaged, usually by a pothole or a curb, and the tire should be replaced rather than driven on.
How a Tire Job Goes Here
Four steps, so a new set lasts as long as it was built to.
- 01
Measure and Read
Tread depth is measured across each tire rather than glanced at, and the wear pattern is read, because that is what says whether anything underneath needs attention first.
- 02
Match the Tire to the Driving
How many miles you cover, whether you drive through Ohio winters, and what you want to spend all point at different tires. We would rather ask than assume.
- 03
Mount and Road-Force Balance
Tires are mounted and balanced under load, which catches the stiff spots and out-of-round conditions a standard spin balance can miss entirely.
- 04
Torque, Set and Drive
Wheels are torqued to specification rather than run up on a gun, pressures are set to the door placard, and the car is driven to confirm it rides the way it should.
Tire Questions
Not in-house. Alignments need equipment the shop does not currently have, so rather than pretend otherwise we arrange it for you when the wear pattern or the handling calls for one. It gets handled properly, just not under our roof.
A standard balancer spins the wheel in the air and corrects weight distribution. A road-force balancer presses a loaded roller against the tire to simulate the weight of the car, which reveals stiff spots and out-of-round conditions that a spin balance cannot see. It is why a wheel can balance perfectly on the machine and still shake on the road.
Most manufacturers ask for it somewhere around every oil change, which is convenient because the wheels are coming off anyway. The point is to even out wear between the axles, since the driven wheels and the steering wheels wear at different rates and in different places.
It depends where the damage is. A puncture in the tread area, within the repairable zone and not too large, can be properly repaired. Damage to the sidewall or the shoulder cannot be, because that part of the tire flexes constantly and no repair holds there. We will show you which case you have rather than simply telling you.
Not always, but pairs on the same axle should match. On all-wheel-drive vehicles it matters more, because significantly different rolling diameters put continuous strain on the drivetrain, and some manufacturers are strict about how much difference they will tolerate. We will tell you what your vehicle actually requires.
Cold weather alone will do it, since pressure falls as temperature drops and an Ohio cold snap can trip the light overnight. If pressures are correct and it stays on, the sensors themselves are the next place to look. They run on internal batteries and eventually reach the end of them.
What Tire Wear Usually Points At
Suspension & Steering
Cupped or feathered wear is a suspension complaint written on the tire rather than a tire problem.
Suspension & SteeringWheel Bearing Repair
Tire roar and bearing hum are easily confused, which is why the tread gets read before a bearing is condemned.
Wheel Bearing RepairBrake Repair
The wheels are already off during tire work, which makes it the natural moment to measure the brakes.
